How to Make a Grazing Plate Full of Cookies + Treats

Grazing plates, or grazing platters, which are similar to charcuterie boards, have become pretty popular. It’s probably because they’re perfect for groups or individuals, can be served during a special occasion or just any regular day, or because they can be put together really quickly.

One of my favorite courses of a meal is dessert, as I’m sure it is for you, and I love making grazing platters for those too. It’s the variety for me! Variety is the spice of life for any grazing plate! This post is dedicated to letting you know how to use the grazing plate method to build a mound of cookies and other treats perfect for sharing with guests during the holidays, to give Santa a great welcome to your home, or just for some good ole bonding time with family for any occasion.

Here’s how to make your Grazing Plate full of Cookies & Treats

Decide how large you want your grazing plate.

Choosing the size of the platter for your cookies and treats is the first step to creating a grazing board that’s full of the the treats everyone will want. Base it on the size of your guests or family. You can use anything from a small cheese board to a large wooden board, and even an entire table if it’s for something like a wedding. For my cookie platter I chose a 27” long wooden board.

Determine what cookies and treats you want to include.

I made a holiday cookie board so I wanted everything including cookies and other sweet items that scream holiday season. Items like chocolate covered pretzels, large candy canes, marshmallows, and peppermint bark, just had to be on my grazing board.

Think about a variety of textures, colors, and shapes.

Though my cookie board consisted of mostly cookies (because it’s a cookie board) I made sure to have a variety of shapes and colors. I also added things like peppermint and caramel covered popcorn as well as Christmas color themed candies. You want to add dimension to your board and having a well blended mixture of different cookies and other items will help you achieve that.

Place all of your similar cookies and treats together on your grazing board.

Your anchors will serve as a space around which you can decorate your board with your cookies, but they will also be a container for some of your desserts. I had one anchor and I placed beautiful, oversized red and green marshmallows into it. Place all of your similar cookies and treats together, and layer them on top of each other in some areas to add height to your grazing board.

Save time by purchasing items instead of making them.

This just is what it is. Unless you love to make treats or bake, I suggest making a list of some of your favorite cookies and treats and grab them on a shopping trip prior to when you’ll need your cookie and treat grazing plate.

Make it special by adding in one or two hand made or baked items.

If you can and you have time, feel free to make a treat or bake one or two kinds of cookies to place on your board. This simple almond flour chocolate chip cookie recipe is super easy and fast, plus it’s scrumptious! It adds just a little bit of extra love to the overall board itself.

Don’t forget decorative fillers and garnish.

Since I created a cookie and treat grazing plate for the holidays, I was sure to include small things like berries, small wreaths, pine cones, and even gift bows to complete the overall festive look.
