How Much Should a Grazing Table Feed?

When putting together a grazing platter, you might be concerned about the portions and making sure everyone will have enough to eat.

Plan on everyone being able to have a least one full portion of protein, fruit or veggies and grains or carbs. You can have several different options for each of these categories, just make sure each person can have a full serving from each whether they choose to get their full serving amount from only one option or want to sample a little from all the options you provide.

If you know your guests well (feeding your immediate family), you can cater your selections to their unique tastes and preferences.

In this type of setting, it’s better to have too much than too little.

How to Make an Easter Breakfast Grazing Platter

The star of this grazing platter are the colorful mini bunny waffles made with this waffle maker! All you need is a shake and pour waffle mix that only requires water like this, and food coloring. I used this neon food coloring for festive colors like pink, green, and purple.

To make these cute mini bunny waffles for your grazing platter:

  • Get 2 or 3 containers and evenly distribute the batter into each bowl.

  • Then add the food coloring you want to each.

  • Mix well, and pour a little under 1/4 cup of batter onto the waffle maker then close.

  • You’ll know the waffles is done when you see steam.

To make other items for your Easter grazing platter:

1. First, you’ll need to select the food items you want to include on your grazing plate.

This year, I’m keeping our grazing platter simple and using just a few items like

  • Mini bunny waffles

  • Turkey sausage

  • Boiled eggs

  • Cookies

  • Strawberries

This lineup has goodies that both kids and adults will like, but you can easily switch out any items on your grazing platter in favor of foods your family would prefer for your unique grazing table.

2. Organize your grazing platter by food size, shape and color.

Once you’ve decided on the items you’d like to include in your platter, you’ll need to arrange them on your tray or cutting board.

When it comes to grazing plates, there isn’t an exact science, but I’ve found that using a few rules of thumb ensures a plate will look well put together. Tap into your creative side and keep these guidelines in mind for your grazing platter:

  • Use larger items to help contain smaller ones or items that might move around.

  • Avoid putting too many of the same colors right next to each other.

  • Vary the height of items to give your platter dimension.

  • Use items with different textures and shapes to provide interest.

3. Add in any Garnishes and Finishing Touches

After you’ve placed your main food items using the guidelines above, you can go in with garnishes and finishing touches to close in any gaps and ensure the platter has a finished look. These could be the leaves from the fruits or veggies you’ve used, loose candies, nuts, etc. Make sure the platter looks full and inviting, and then you’re all done!

Depending on your food items, you can make your platter the day before. You can leave items that should be served hot for the day of, if they won’t reheat well or can’t be easily removed to be reheated. Store the grazing plate in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat, covered loosely with plastic wrap.

There you have it! A beautiful grazing platter to show off to your family or friends to celebrate the season!
