Children seem to always be hungry!

I can’t tell you how many times my son asks me for a snack throughout the day. And, while I want him to satisfied and healthy, it’s hard to stop what I’m doing every few minutes to help him get something else to eat.

With that in mind, I came up with an easy solution to help him be more independent and get the snacks he wants by himself – a DIY snack station using affordable items from Walmart!

I’m sharing my best snack organization and snack station ideas to help kids easily access their favorite snacks so you don’t have to!

How do you organize snacks?

If you’re ready to tackle snack organization, start by separating your snacks into categories: chips and crackers together, granola bars, puddings, fruits, etc.

Take into account the size of your go-to snack items and work on finding the best organizing bins and containers for each snack category.

Here are some of my favorite snack organizer ideas:

Try to keep in mind the size of your pantry shelves as you make your purchases, to ensure you have enough space to fit everything you buy.

Below, are some tips to help you organize your pantry once you have all your containers purchased.

How do you organize snacks in the pantry?

When organizing anything in the pantry, I follow a few simple rules.

  • Make sure everything is within clear view. Hidden items will get forgotten and go to waste.

  • Place similar items next to each other so you know exactly where to go for the foods you need.

  • Be sure to house small, loose items in containers or bins so they stay together and tidy.

  • Put the heaviest items on the floor or your lowest shelves to eliminate heavy lifting.

How do you organize kids snack pantry?

You can create a kids’ snack station in your pantry or with a storage cart. Here are some snack station ideas, specifically for the pantry.

First, make sure your snack organizer bins are placed within reach of your child. This may mean making room on lower shelves. You can also utilize floor space under your shelves if you have it.

Organize your bins and containers so similar items are next to each other and everything is easily accessible.

I always use clear bins like the ones linked above so you can see exactly what’s in every container. This helps kids choose the snacks they want without having to ask where things are, and you can keep an eye out for when you need to re-stock.

You can label your bins with categories or numbers so kids know what items they can have at a given time.

For example, when they get home from school, they can pick 1 snack from category A (chips and crackers), 2 from B (fruits), and 1 from C (drinks). This will help you keep tabs on how much they’re eating and ensure they’re eating the way you want for their nutrition.

How do you make a snack corner?

If you don’t have a pantry you can use the same snack organization ideas to create a snack corner or snack station anywhere else in your home. This is where the convenience of a snack cart comes into play.

You may not need as many bins and containers if using a snack cart. So, before looking into snack organizer ideas, make sure they will fit on your cart.

Be creative with spacing and the type of containers you buy and use as much vertical space as you can!

Where should I store snacks at home?

Store snacks wherever makes the most sense for you. Make sure it’s somewhere easily accessible to your child, but not in the way of your day-to-day life.

If you can’t use your pantry, you can use your mudroom, your child’s playroom, an informal dining room, or even their bedroom.

How do you store kids snacks?

How do you keep snacks fresh?

Don’t buy more than you need. If you over-buy, your items may end up going bad before they’re able to be used.

  • Teach your child to seal re-closable items as soon as they’re done eating.

  • Utilize chip clips.

  • Find containers with lids if needed.

Where do you store open snacks?

You can store open snacks in a separate area of your pantry or snack station so kids know to go to those items first before opening a new package.

Or, simply keep them in the front of your snack category row, using the first in first out method. (The oldest items get used first. Newer items get used last and put to the back of your shelves/bins).
