I’m not a huge outdoorsy person at all, but since becoming a mom I make efforts to get outside so that my son can play. Although David usually takes the lead on this, I realize that I need to be active outside with Little David because he likes to play with mommy and daddy. One way we do get outside is by making a kids picnic basket. I love making a nice kids picnic basket that’s tailored to my little guy’s food likes, and it also gives me a chance to get a little creative. Whether it’s nearing spring time, or even entering the fall, the nice cool weather in Georgia is something I do like to enjoy and having a little kids picnic party with your little ones is a great way to do it!

Here’s how you can make a kids picnic basket cheap, fast, and still make it look good!

Making a kids picnic basket can be easy, quick, and inexpensive. That’s what we need, right? Plus, your kids just want to eat, hang out, and have fun anyway! Here are some items you can use, but of course feel free to modify the foods to meet you/your child’s dietary needs and preferences.

What you’ll need:

• A basket and blanket

• Ingredients for a sandwich (bread, condiments, toppings)

• sandwich cutters, fruit cutters & skewers (optional)

• 1-2 fruits

• 1-2 veggies

• 1-2 snacking options (e.g. cheese and crackers)

• 1 drink choice

• eating utensils, cups, plates, napkins

• food containers to store your food items inside your basket

Instructions:

1. I suggest making a sandwich as your entree. It’s easy and FAST! For our kids picnic basket we had sunflower butter and jelly sandwiches, I used sandwich cutters to make my sandwiches look way too cute. We had dinosaurs, dolphins, and hearts.

2. During lunch time I try to make sure Little David has a fruit and/or veggie option. We had strawberries and blackberries. I also bought skewers to make these cute fruit and cheese skewers because he loves cheese and berries. I made 5 skewers and it took 1 minute per skewer, so 5 minutes total. I chose to go all out and top the skewers with bananas that were cut into stars using the fruit cutters. If you want a little razzle dazzle for the kidos, using sandwich and fruit cutters really do change the game. They get SO excited about it!

3. For a vegetable, I literally put a frozen mixed veggie bag into the microwave that took 5 minutes to cook and let it cool. I then placed the cheese and fruit skewers and the veggie mix into a partitioned serving dish next to each other.

4. I wanted an option for cheese and crackers so we went with colorful goldfish, simply because the colorful ones are super fun, and asagio and sharp cheddar cheese. Again, I wanted to get a little fancy so I used my fruit cutters to cut 3 slices of each cheese into a variety of shapes. I stacked all 6 slices of cheese and used 4 different fruit cutters to cut. It took about 2 minutes for the entire process. REALLY FAST!

5. For drinks I grabbed some individually bottled miniature apple juices. I gathered paper and plastic options for utensils and plates, but loved the idea of using some really good glasses to drink because I was drinking too. We used these glasses from WREN home. 6. Lastly, I packed my basket with my food, utensils, and other items, then headed outdoors to our yard with my blanket and my baby buddy!
