Valentine’s Day is near and I know we’re used to thinking of it as a lover’s day. While we still need to make time for our partners, it’s important to also make family Valentine’s Day activities a part of your routine once you have added children to the gang. There are many different ways you can spend time with the family for Valentine’s Day and make it a fun time!

Here are some great family Valentines day ideas to Make it a fun holiday for everyone!

  1. Have family craft time!

One of my son’s favorites things to do is to draw, paint, and make crafts. I’m sure your littles love art as well. Make it a fun family activity by making crafts together. Get some construction paper, crayons, markers, and make Valentine’s Day cards for everyone.

  2. Do a family staycation.

Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need for a great family Valentine’s Day idea. Pack up the family for a weekend at a cool hotel not too far from the house and indulge in room service and any other amenities your home away from home has to offer.

  3. Have a family friendly movie night.

We love movies in my family, and we all have our own favorites. Take the time to watch 1 family friendly movie together, complete with snacks, drinks, and blankets to snuggle on the couch and enjoy some good quality time together.

  4. Make baked goodies!

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love dessert! Pick out a few of everyone’s favorites, whether it be cookies, brownies, or both, and get to baking. Get heart shaped cookie cutters and don’t forget the frosting and sprinkles! You’ll see just how much of a fun activity baking and decorating treats is for a great family Valentine’s Day.

  5. Take a visit to a park.

There’s nothing like a good time outdoors to get active and blow off some steam. Depending on how old your children are, plan some activities that you can do together at the park. For toddlers, playing tag with them or just chasing them around is fun. Even visiting the park for a nice evening walk together as a family will do the trick!

  6. Make it a family game night.

Another great family Valentine’s Day idea is game night. Get together some of everyone’s favorite board games, card games, you name it, and play until your heart is content!

  7. Color coordinate and take family “usies”!

While me and Little David love taking pictures, David doesn’t so much…but I can always con him into an informal usie 😄. Get dressed up in your matching Valentine’s Day pj’s or your matching sweaters and break out your cell phone. Take pictures and make sure you save your favorites and pick one to frame. Do it every year to make it a family Valentine’s Day tradition so you can look back on the photos each year.

  8. Make a family meal together.

One way to everyone in my family’s heart is through our stomachs! We love food and it’s one way we celebrate lots of occasions, so clearly it’s going to be on our list for Valentine’s Day with the family. Pick a cool dinner that’s kid friendly to make. Some great ideas for a Family Valentine’s Day are homemade pizza, and even breakfast for dinner! Get everyone in the family involved in doing something that will help the meal come together!

  9. Go to a movie.

If you have littles that are old enough to sit through a movie in a theater, grab the fam and go for a movie night out. If your littles are still too young, see number 3!
