Staple Coats You Need for Winter: The Everyday Trench

Trench Coat

I love winter, not so much for the weather, but for the fashion! I love dressing myself up in scarves, hats, gloves, boots, and my fav - coats! I know we’re nearing the middle of February now, but it’s still going to be quite cool for a while, and we will even have a few more cold days before spring proper arrives. There are a few classic, staple coats you need to survive winter, be it this winter or in the future. In this series, I’ll walk you through each coat style, let you know why they’re great options, and how you can easily tailor them to fit your own personal style! First up, we’ll be talking about the Every Day Trench Coat.

First off, let me just say I love trench coats! They’re so versatile and a good quality trench goes a very long way. Trench coats are a favorite of mine because you really can wear them with anything (think dress up, dress down, day or night) and they add a nice sophistication to any look overall. On top of that, they’re great to wear in the spring when it’s still chilly, yet warming up, and also in the fall when it’s quite cool, but on the way to being really cold. I, myself, also like them in the winter especially since I live in Georgia (where it doesn’t get deathly cold) because when paired with a nice light sweater or other long sleeved shirt they give just the right amount of warmth.

Since I’m a new mom, always on the go and need stylish but comfortable options, the trench coat is a perfect staple because I can throw it on with anything. Whether it’s to wear to work with my business ensembles, or to make a quick trip to the grocery store with my tights, sweatshirt, and Uggs! In this look, I chose to go with a pair of black Ponte pants and a rose pink velour pullover. Pure comfort! To dress up your trench for a nice feminine look, think about adding a nice, bright silk scarf for soft touch and a pop of color, or even a gaudy pair of pearls that will stand out!

When you look for a great quality trench coat, make sure it’s lined, has great stitching, and a durable feel. I also like neutral colors that can pair well with anything - hence the khaki - but if you want to go non-traditional, feel free to try a color that is totally out of the box. Bright pink and red have been pretty popular! The trench coat I’m wearing is Ralph Lauren, and it’s held up well over the last 6 years! Here is a similar version.

Stay tuned for the next post in this Coat Series, where I’ll talk about another great, everyday option for those months when it gets much colder outside!
