We grabbed a few items from Home Depot and ordered the balls from Amazon for an affordable upgrade that really transforms the space.

Here’s How to Make This DIY Sports Room Wall Decor for Boys!

Materials

A few $6 paint samples, $20 ball holders, some kid-sized statement balls, and paint brushes, took my son’s room from basic to bold!

Here’s what, you’ll need to do it, too!

Pick up some paint samples in your chosen colors from your local Home Depot or any hardware store. While you’re there, grab some grab some cheap paint brushes in various sizes (this will give you different brush strokes and patterns). They don’t have to be the best quality for this project!

We ordered the ball holders and basketballs online, but you can absolutely grab an assortment of balls from Walmart or even the Dollar Tree.

Process

Here’s the step-by-step process to create the feature wall start wing the paint design!

Paint

  1. First, remove any furniture away from wall.

  2. Next, prepare the wall by giving it a light cleaning to remove any dirt, dust, and scuff marks.

  3. Then, cover any nearby items with a drop cloth or plastic sheet to protect them from paint splatters.

  4. Next, select your first paint color and carefully, dab, drag, or sling the paint on the wall in a random pattern.

  5. Layer on your next paint colors using the same techniques, alternating your paint brush size as you go for more texture and variation.

  6. Let the paint completely dry.

Wall Mounts

  1. First, decide how many balls you want to mount on your wall and how far apart you want them to be. (Map them out on the ground before working on the actual wall).

  2. Use a measuring tape and or/laser level to mark the drill holes for the display mounts.

  3. Follow the instructions on the ball holders you purchased to anchor them to the wall.

  4. Finally, arrange the balls on your display wall, take a step back, and admire your hard work!

Finished Product

We’re so happy with how this project turned out, and our little man was over the moon, too!

With just a handful of supplies and a few hours of your time, you can easily recreate this look in your kid’s room. It’s a big impact with a small price tag!
